COVENTRY — Denise Davenport and her 9-year-old grandson Damian Maltezo are combining their love of baseball and dogs into some good eats with a curve ball.

They’re opening the Doghouse Café,Inc.

Since Maltezo was 6 years old, the two of them have been traveling around the country to watch baseball games at different fields.

Being a little league player, he loves the Boston Red Sox but loves seeing other teams play as well.

“Some of the fields I’ve been to are Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Atlanta and Baltimore,” Maltezo said.

Grandmother and grandson were enjoying some time together last year and in their conversation, the idea came up for opening a small place that serves stadium-style hotdogs named after the ball fields they’ve visited and a bakery where they can create homemade, all natural doggie treats, like cookies made with peanut butter and yogurt and pumpkin biscotti.

Davenport explained the small, yellow building at 1373 Main St., a quarter mile down from the Community Center, sits next to the Greenway bikepath.
