Department of Health urges flu shots

Doctor Michael Fine of the Rhode Island Department of Health urges everyone to get their annual vaccines regardless of age or health.

With the flu season fast approaching, Doctor Michael Fine, director of the Department of Health, urges everyone to get their vaccines as soon as can. The current vaccine protects against three strains of the flu virus, including this year's dominant strain, H1N1. "The flu is on its way to Rhode Island from the south and west," said Fine at a press conference on Monday. "We in Rhode Island are already seeing increasing visits to physician offices. We have had 16 hospitalizations in Rhode Island so far." "We expect the yearly flu epidemic to be in Rhode Island in the next two weeks," he continued.
