CPD Det. helps out on ICAC task force

July 28, 2014

COVENTRY— The Rhode Island State Police Computer Crimes Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force arrested a Foster man for possession and transfer of child pornography Friday morning. Members of the ICAC include Coventry Police Detective Kevin Harris, who is one of the two full-time positions on the special force.
Derek Holland, 31, was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning for allegedly downloading and sharing child pornography that was later identified by the ICAC during anauthorized search warrant. Holland was the owner of the computer with the alleged videos and images. He was arraigned in Third Division District Court on Friday.
The ICAC investigates people involved in the exploitation of children specifically. Harris has been on the special task force since its creation about six years ago. He and Warwick Police Officer Kevin Petit are the only two full-time detectives on the ICAC because of their expertise with computers.
