April 30, 2014

Bella's Sports Pub on Main Street was cited once, for being open with patrons inside at nearly 3 a.m.; and again for serving an underage patron, leading to a weekend loss of its liquor license. Jessica Boisclair. Daily Times.

COVENTRY— After receiving its second violation within a year, Bella’s Sports Pub on Main Street had its license suspended for two days by the Coventry Town Council at Monday night’s council meeting.

Bella’s will have its license suspended on May 9-10.

Town Solicitor Fred Tobin explained that the informal hearing held before the council was regarding an incident of the sale of alcohol to an underage person at the bar.

Owner Dave Thomas admitted to the charges and addressed the council regarding his suspension.

“I’m very embarrassed to be here and this is the second time I’ve been up here regarding situations with my employees, but I have taken corrective action as of the incident that occurred and we have to move on from this point,” he explained.

It was at the suggestion of Coventry Police Chief Bryan Volpe that because of the severity of having two violations within a year, the liquor license for the bar should be suspended for two consecutive days.
