NARRAGANSETT – The town council voted 4-1 Monday to send a letter to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation indicating its preferences for the bike path extension.
Mike DeLuca, director of community development, gave the council an update regarding RIDOT’s review of the bike path. He said that as of last month, RIDOT’s consultant firm, Fay, Spofford & Thorndike, was in the process of completing the advanced feasibility study and will deliver a final report some time in 2014.
“I would think they’re going to deliver it sooner rather than later, in the next two months maybe,” DeLuca said.
The town provided RIDOT with three proposed routes for review, the town council’s preferred “Sea View Route,” the “Brady Route,” designed by resident Patrick Brady, and the “Master Plan Route,” which came from an earlier study of possible routes.
Brady attended the meeting and indicated that DeLuca had submitted the incorrect Brady Route to RIDOT.
DeLuca said he hadn’t been provided the most recent Brady Route in 2011 when staff complied the map of proposed routes for RIDOT.
Brady reviewed his correct route for the council and asked that it be submitted to RIDOT.
He also asked that the council withdraw the Master Plan Route from RIDOT’s consideration.
“It is not only not feasible, but is an insult to the abutters of this road,” Brady said of the Master Plan Route, indicating its path down Riverside Drive.
