Deborah Gist can add the Town of East Greenwich to her list of supporters in her pursuit of hoping to remain Commissioner of the Stateâs Department of Education.
In a letter dated May 28 that was co-signed by Town Council President Michael Isaacs and fellow Councilmen Michael Kiernan, Jeffrey Cianciolo, Brad Bishop and Mark Gee, the Town Council is urging the Board of Education and Chairwoman Eva Marie Mancuso to renew the contract of Commissioner Gist.
The brief letter cites that Gist has brought Rhode Island leadership â which the Council describes as âa most important attributeâ â and that itâs important that Gist should be given âsufficient timeâ to continue to move the stateâs education forward.
âChange is never easy and significant change in education is even more difficult,â the Council says in the letter. âWe are persuaded that Commissioner Gist is moving our educational system in the right directions to assure that Rhode Islandâs students will be prepared and for a world that is increasingly demanding.
âWe urge the Board to balance the expected difficulties with the need for significant change and to provide Commissioner Gist with the time and support needed for her to be successful.
