Council discusses updated finance letter

August 20, 2014

NARRAGANSETT – The Narragansett Town Council continued its discussion on a single page letter drafted by the finance committee to be sent out to all tax payers detailing the town’s financial condition. The letter, which was originally requested by councilman Doug McLaughlin, was sent back for revisions during the last town council meeting earlier this month. Councilman Matt Mannix had previously taken issue with some of the wording in the letter, explaining that he would like to see it be sent out with strictly facts and advocated for removing the committee’s opinions. Councilwoman Susan Cicilline-Buonanno also expressed concern about the letter, adding that she was not necessarily on board with sending out mailers to the entire town containing the opinions of specific groups and committees.
Harris Chorney, chair of the Narragansett Finance Committee, explained to the council that the new, updated letter submitted to them was largely similar to the original draft, with some minor language changes as well as a disclaimer statement.
