Council approves gravel mining for Eminel Holdings

August 7, 2014

HOPKINTON — At Monday night’s meeting, the town council approved the initial earth removal registration of Eminel Holdings, L.L.C., located in Ashaway. The town’s Earth Removal Ordinance, enacted in February 2012, requires sand and gravel operations to demonstrate usage of best practices annually in order to remain in compliance.
Eminel Holdings Manager Frank Turrisi and his attorney, Charles Soloveitzik, answered the council’s questions about the company’s seven-acre sand and gravel operation located at 97 High Street (Route 216), near North Drive, which has been in operation since about 1985. Turrisi has owned the property since about 2009 according to Soloveitzik.
The town building and zoning department already performed a site inspection and granted a zoning certificate to the operation.
