COVENTRY — Democratic Town Committee Chairman Gary Cote, resigned his seat just before the financial town meeting June 10.
“I was away for a week and when I come back it’s to see what’s being posted and handed out to the voters regarding the town council’s decision to not include money in the town’s budget for the schools.
“I’m just tired of fighting,” he said.
Cote was referring to fellow party members Judi Liner and Kathy Patenaude passing out flyers asking voters to vote in favor if the tax increase to fund the schools.
“She’s berating the town council for not approving the school department’s request,” he said. “Believe me, I am all for education but I was also elected to look out for the taxpayers, not just those with children in the schools and in good conscience, I can’t support it and it’s more ethical for me to walk away.”
School Committee Chairwoman Kathy Patenaude said she had no idea he resigned and the first time she heard it was when The Courier contacted her for comment.
