Callaghan to make a run at RI Senate

May 1, 2014

Narragansett Town Council President James Callaghan, pictured here at the Wounded Warrior Project flag raising ceremony last October, has announced he is running for state Senate in District 35. Current Sen. Dawson Hodgson will vacate the seat to run for attorney general this November.

NARRAGANSETT – Town Council President James Callaghan has announced he’ll run for a state Senate seat this November.

With current Sen. Dawson Hodgson’s announcement that he won’t run for re-election to represent District 35, which encompasses parts of Narragansett, South Kingstown, North Kingstown and East Greenwich, but will instead run for attorney general, Callaghan decided to seek election.

“I thought it was a good opportunity,” he said Thursday. “It’s not often that a seat like this comes available.”
