EAST GREENWICH â€“ The year was 1914 and the Panama Canal had officially opened after 10 years of construction, the cost of a first-class stamp was $0.02, the Ford Motor Company announced an eight-hour workday and a daily wage of $5 and baseball legend Babe Ruth made his major league debut with the Red Sox.
It was also the year that Lewis Bain was born and last Friday he celebrated his 100th birthday.
