Attorney punished for elder exploitation

July 24, 2014

An East Greenwich attorney was sentenced last Wednesday by Superior Court Judge Walter R. Stone after pleading no contest to embezzlement and elder exploitation.
Janet Mastronardi, 54, of 76 Goodwin St., East Greenwich, admitted that she embezzled close to $130,000 from an elderly woman, according to a press release from the Office of Attorney General Peter F. Kilmartin, and she was sentenced to seven years, with 30 months home confinement and the remaining 54 months suspended with probation.
The press release says the State requested that Mastronardi be incarcerated at the ACI for “a period of time,” however the court agreed to home confinement considering Mastronardi paid the money she embezzled back in full in advance of last Wednesday’s plea agreement.
