Architect to do study on W.E.S.

October 28, 2010

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Consolidation of both school and town administration offices to the former Wickford Elementary School, 99 Philips St. is still the plan. But, before that, Edward Rowse Architects will conduct a study on the final details of the project. The study will cost $19,500, which is negotiable, and will either be paid for out of the town’s capital reserve fund or the undesignated fund balance. “I think the price is awfully high, but that’s just my observation. We have a facilities sub-committee that’s made up of skilled contractors. I think it would be wise to have them look at this proposal and then come back in about a month,” said council member Charles Stamm. Council member Steven DeToy recommended to have the architect do the study and then hand it over to the facilities sub-committee to “fine-tune it”. The architects will develop a conceptual design which will include a floor plan, amenities, parking, site drainage, accessibility access, plumbing, electrical and other elements. All work will be directed and coordinated through the Public Works Director Phil Bergeron. No voting took place at Monday’s Town Council meeting. The contractual documents will be drafted and presented at the council’s Nov. 8 meeting.
