‘Run 4 Kerri’ tradition continues

August 7, 2014

SOUTH KINGSTOWN - In sports, sometimes, it’s not all about wins and losses, or who made the game-winning plays. It’s the sacrifices and the commitments people make off the field and to other organizations that really make sports something special.
On Sunday in South County, South Kingstown held it’s 13th annual ‘Run 4 Kerri’ event. In the race this year, more than 550 runners participated in the four-mile run for the non-profit scholarship fund organized by the Bessette Family and South Kingstown High School. The race is named after Kerri Lynn Bessette, a former track athlete for South Kingstown High School who passed away in her freshman year at LaSalle University in April of 2001 from Bacterial Meningitis. In addition to being a phenomenal athlete, Kerri was always a strong-willed person who was loved and respected by all she met. With her impact on others, to honor her, South County residents gather on the first Sunday of August every year to run for her family’s charity.
