The Tokarski family of Bradford welcomed its newest member Wednesday, a labrador retriever named Pilot.

Pilot is a specially trained lab who will help 9-year-old Matt Tokarski manage his diabetes. Pilot will alert Matt and all the Tokarskis when Matt’s blood sugar is either too high or too low.
The Tokarskis received the dog from Warren Retrievers of Orange, Va. Erin Gray, a trainer from Warren Retrievers, brought Pilot, who is 4 months old, to Bradford, and will stay with the family for the next four days to help him train with his new family and introduce him to the community. She will return every 90 days for three or four days for the next two years as Pilot continues his training. Pilot will also eventually go to school with Matt. Pilot will bring great peace of mind to the whole family, especially Matt’s mom, Kate, who will finally get a good night’s sleep knowing Pilot is watching over her son.
