URI Women’s Soccer off to great start

KINGSTON—URI Women’s Soccer opened their 2014 season this week starting on Friday against in-state rival Providence College before hosting their home-opener on Sunday against Fairfield.
The two games were nearly the perfect start that URI Women’s Head Coach Mike Needham was looking for, as they left Providence in a 1-1 two-overtime draw and then snuck out a thrilling 1-0 shutout to lift the young Rams to 1-0-1 in the early season.

Chariho finishes fantastic NYBA season

NARRAGANSETT—The Chariho Green eighth-graders weren’t victorious during Thursday night’s playoff game of the Narragansett Summer Basketball League, but they did accomplish something that very few Chariho middle school basketball teams have—an invite to the summer league postseason.
The single-elimination tournament included four teams moving on to play in the playoff rounds: South Kingstown, Chariho Green, and two North Kingstown teams. Green entered as the third best team playing and they would be matched up against a tough gritty South Kingstown team that had one loss on their resume.

Waves’ season comes to an end

NEWPORT—Things started to heat up in the New England Collegiate Baseball League earlier this week as the Newport Gulls claimed second place in the Southern Division, meaning the third place Ocean State Waves would have to travel to Newport to begin the opening divisional-round of the playoffs.
For a league that is commonly recognized to many people as the second-best summer collegiate league in the nation, it sure looked that way this past week during the first round playoffs with the new-look Rhode Island NECBL playoff rivalry stirring up.

EAST PROVIDENCE—Competitive high school golfers participated in the 93rd annual Rhode Island Junior Amateur Golf Tournament at Metacomet Country Club in East Providence on Tuesday, with a chance to boost their confidence and try to advance to the next round of play.

SOUTH KINGSTOWN- It’s almost football season, and every Ram fan in the entire state is looking forward to when the University of Rhode Island first takes the field in the season opener against Marshall on Sept. 6. However, until the game, the team must put in the hard work in the summer to improve as a team and begin a new season of URI football.
This past Sunday, on URI’s practice field, the Rams kicked off a new era in the first training camp under new head coach Jim Fleming.

Young cagers cruise to victory

NARRAGANSETT - On Tuesday night, East Greenwich and Chariho met in the Narragansett Youth Summer Basketball League in the 7th and 8th grade division in a critical late-season game. With the playoffs approaching, it was a game to help either team gain some momentum heading into the post season.
East Greenwich defeated Chariho White, 43-16, cruising to the easy victory at Christofaro Park.

Waves top Gulls in push for NECBL playoffs

NEWPORT— The playoff race heated up last Friday night in the Pell Bridge series season finale between the Ocean State Waves and the Newport Gulls in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, with the Waves coming away on top, 11-4, ending the Gulls’ six-game winning streak in the process.

Chariho Junior State All-Stars eliminated

CUMBERLAND-Going into the weekend championship series against Barrington in the Jr. League All-Star State Championship Tournament, Chariho had an undefeated record of 6-0 through the district and state tournaments. With just one more victory, Chariho would win the entire state championship, and would mark one of the most incredible playoff runs in the junior league.
However, there was just one team standing in their way of this incredible accomplishment, and it was Barrington’s junior league team.

Chariho wins big against East Greenwich

SOUTH KINGSTOWN - In the 7th and 8th grade division of the Narragansett Youth Basketball’s Summer League, Chariho Green has enjoyed quite the start to the season. In the team’s first seven games, they had gone 6-1 and were looking to have a big game against East Greenwich Tuesday night at Christafaro Park in South Kingstown.
Chariho Green came out and made a statement against East Greenwich, winning big, 54-28.
