Supreme Court stays fire decision

PROVIDENCE—The Supreme Court granted the town of North Kingstown a stay of Judge Brian Stern’s Feb. 7 order to put an end to the three-platoon, 24-hour shift system for town firefighters. Negotiations over the past months between the North Kingstown Firefighters Association (NKFFA) Local 1651 and the town have failed to produce a new collective bargaining agreement, and the stay ensures that the firefighters remain under the town’s preferred work system until the Supreme Court makes a final decision.

NK Town Council approves 2014 budget

NORTH KINGSTOWN—On the evening of Wednesday, May 1, the town council spent nearly three hours discussing potential reductions and the town’s financial stability moving forward into the next fiscal year. The council approved approximately $520,000 in cuts to the fiscal year 2014 proposed budget, which totals nearly $97.5 million, in order to make additional tax increases less burdensome on North Kingstown residents.

Russell agrees to release slain bomber’s body

Tsarnaev family prepared to receive son Tamerlane’s remains

PROVIDENCE—According to statement released on Tuesday by her attorney Amato DeLuca, Katherine Russell and the Tsarnaev family will be able to receive the remains of her slain husband, the Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlane Tsarnaev. Russell, a native of North Kingstown, has been the center of an FBI investigation regarding her knowledge of her husband’s activities leading up to his April 15 bombing of the Boston Marathon and subsequent evasion of police, resulting in four deaths and over 170 people injured.
