Committee discusses changes to policy

EAST GREENWICH-After 30 years of service, The East Greenwich Town Council thanked Bruce MacGunnigle, a dedicated and hardworking asset to the town who will retire in November.
In a meeting Monday night, MacGunnigle was recognized for his ten years in the Town Clerk’s office and his over 30 years of volunteer and employee service in East Greenwich. The long list of jobs and accomplishments MacGunnigle has been involved with has made him an important part of East Greenwich.

EG sixth-grader raising money for Sudan

EAST GREENWICH- As the holidays and the season of giving approach, one East Greenwich 6th grader is raising money to give the ultimate gift to one small community in South Sudan, the gift of fresh, drinkable water.
12-year-old Alex Gray seems wise beyond his years as he attempts to raise $5,000 towards building a new well in a community located in South Sudan, Africa. This well would allow for not only easy access to water, but it would give the community a place to thrive and build upon.

Gee, Callaghan debate for seat 35

EAST GREENWICH - The two Senate District 35 candidates answered questions regarding finances and whether there should be a constitutional convention in Rhode Island at a debate Monday night.
Republican Mark Gee and Democrat James Callaghan responded to the questions submitted by residents, mainly pertaining to the biggest issue for Rhode Islanders: the budget and finances.
ABC 6 Newsman Mark Curtis moderated the event, beginning with what is sure to be one of the biggest questions on the minds of Rhode Islanders this election, regarding 38 Studios.

Letter details issues with district

EAST GREENWICH- The East Greenwich School Committee met Tuesday night, where a letter was read on behalf of a concerned Ad Hoc Committee member.
The concerns expressed were that of Kristin Lehoullier, member of the Ad Hoc Committee focusing on the Strategic Plan. An audience member spoke up in public comment on behalf of Lehoullier who couldn't attend the meeting herself, reading a letter Lehoullier wrote expressing her concerns about the answers School Committee candidates gave at the debate held last week regarding the strategic plan.

Forum discusses all-day kindergarten

EAST GREENWICH-Town residents had the chance to voice their opinion Tuesday night at a well-attended public forum discussing all day kindergarten in the East Greenwich School District.
Superintendent Victor Mercurio answered questions from many concerned parents and teachers regarding the subject that an Ad Hoc Committee has been studying for months. However, the biggest question of how much implementing all day kindergarten would cost, remained unanswered.

EG Photo takes another shot at Main Street

EAST GREENWICH- Soon to celebrate 38 years of doing business, East Greenwich Photo has found a new home on Main Street, offering a convenient location for customers.
Photographer Soozie Sundlun has been capturing moments in the lives of her customers for over three decades, and will continue to do so in their new, smaller studio, where they started years ago.

Four East Greenwich artists to open studio doors

EAST GREENWICH- For the sixth year, artists will open their doors to the public during the West Bay Open Studios Tour, featuring four East Greenwich artists.
The free and self-guided tour features studios in East Greenwich, Warwick, Exeter, North Kingstown and Saunderstown, giving the public a chance to meet the artists and experience their artistic process.
The East Greenwich Artists participating are Marjorie Ball, Alice Benvie-Gebhart, Nancy Gaucher-Thomas and Jane Parillo-Rollins, each offering a different type of art to the tour.

Town Council again talks wind energy

October 9, 2014

EAST GREENWICH- The East Greenwich Town Council amended the town municipal code Monday night, further changing the standards pertaining to Wind Energy Facilities.
What was supposed to be a third reading of the amendments made to the code turned into another change, moving the third public reading to the next town council meeting on Oct. 27.
