Norman’s granted new license

EAST GREENWICH — A notable establishment on Main Street is about to gain a second life.
Members of the East Greenwich Town Council unanimously approved the applications for both a victualing license and an entertainment license for Norman’s Tap and Restaurant Monday evening at Swift Community Center, more than five months after the half-century-old business was closed down due to an excessive debt.

Solar energy coming to RHS

July 17, 2014

A new energy source will be installed at a prominent educational institute in the very near future.
Rocky Hill School in East Greenwich recently announced that it obtained a pair of state grants, with the assistance of Newport-based NPTRE (also known as Newport Renewables), for the installation of new solar panels to be constructed atop its Alan F. Flynn, Jr. Academic Center, which houses the campus’ Upper School.

Briarbrook being sued over Oscar auction

July 10, 2014

A couple of weeks ago, a piece of Hollywood history was placed on the auction block by a local prominent auctioneer and sold to the highest bidder in front of a large crowd at Varnum Armory that was eager to claim it at the right price.
However, Hollywood has now come calling for that particular piece and is willing to take the matter to court.

Martin cited for suspended license

July 10, 2014

A former East Greenwich School Committee member – and current candidate for a seat – is in trouble with the law for operating a motor vehicle while having a suspended license.
Paul Martin, 71, of 57 Brookside Drive, was cited for the infraction by East Greenwich police on June 27 following a minor motor vehicle accident that occurred on Division Street that morning.

Troop 1 Eagle Scouts fly high

EAST GREENWICH — In front of several friends, family and dignitaries inside the warm cafeteria at Cole Middle School, Boy Scout Troop 1 East Greenwich honored seven new Eagle Scouts Sunday afternoon, lauding the tremendous efforts in serving their community and their overall dedication to scouting.

Discussion about financial town meeting’s future begins

Openings aplenty for local candidates

There are multiple seats up for grabs for the East Greenwich Town Council with a slew of potential candidates – one of them an incumbent – vying for them and hope to gain once all of the final votes are tallied this November.

Synthetic pot sting busts local store owner

June 26, 2014

EAST GREENWICH — In conjunction with the Newport police and the Rhode Island Division of Taxation, East Greenwich police arrested a local convenience store owner last Wednesday afternoon for allegedly selling synthetic marijuana from his establishment.
Rakeshkumar R. Patel, 40, of 37 Anne Holst Court, Warwick, was taken into custody by officers, removed from his store – East Greenwich Farm, located at 360 Main St. – in handcuffs and charged with one count of delivery of a controlled substance.

Woman crashes into SP cruiser

An East Greenwich woman was arrested for drunk driving by Rhode Island State Police after she struck a police cruiser on Interstate 95 in Providence over the weekend.
