COVENTRY – The Central Coventry Task Force for Fire Protection met last Wednesday to endorse seven candidates to run for the Central Coventry Fire District (CCFD) Board of Directors and to discuss Superior Court Judge Brian Stern’s ruling on May 17 that outlines the duties of the board following the June 29 election.

NORTH STONINGTON, Conn.—Brandon Burns, 24, a North Kingstown native was killed this past Sunday evening after his motorcycle veered into oncoming traffic on Route 201 in North Stonington, Conn.

NORTH KINGSTOWN—Town Manager Michael Embury announced last week that the town has entered into a purchase and sales agreement with Stanley Weiss Associates, LLC to redevelop Wickford Elementary School. The building, which has been closed since 2005, has been the subject of a number of discussions over the past several years as to how it should be best utilized.

EAST GREENWICH — The real sun was hiding behind the overcast skies within the town last Thursday evening.
But for the East Greenwich Fire District, the proverbial sun had officially set for good a little after 8 p.m.
After serving as its own government within East Greenwich since the days where John Adams was elected president, the Fire District’s time in the town officially drew to a close following the Board of Fire Commissioners meeting inside the conference room at Town Hall last Thursday evening.

HOPKINTON – Occasional sprinkles of cold rain may have seemed threatening to the fate of the annual Memorial Day parade sponsored by the Gordon Greene Post 27 American Legion. But those dedicated to honoring fallen military heroes didn’t let the bad weather stop them. The parade snaked down the main road between Hope Valley and Wyoming just as it has for 145 years.

KINGSTON–The Rhode Island Board of Education voted eight to one Thursday to approve the motion to allow the University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College and Community College of Rhode Island to make individual institutional decisions to arm the campus police. Board member William Maaia voted against the motion.

NARRAGANSETT – Asphyxia and blunt force injuries caused the death of Allison M. Taylor, 65, earlier this month in Narragansett, according to the Rhode Island Department of Health.
Dara Chadwick, public information officer for the Department of Health, said Wednesday that the medical examiner listed asphyxia and blunt force injuries as the causes of Taylor’s death and that no other information about her death is available.
Robert M. Taylor, 45, is accused of choking and inflicting the injuries that caused his mother’s death in a Caswell Street apartment.
