WEST GREENWICH—For years, fans, parents and athletes in Exeter-West Greenwich High School have debated whether or not there’s enough interest in the town to put together a hockey program.
Thursday night, they got their answer.
Today, let us give thanks for Roberta Humble, Rhode Island’s relentless cheerleader and unofficial goodwill ambassador.
The longtime CCRI English professor and former president of the North Kingstown Rotary Club, has created another trivia game that has the dual objective of providing fun and informing people about state landmarks.
When last we checked in with Roberta, a year ago, she was launching Rhode Test, her first game which sold 3,000 copies. “Rhode Test had families conversing, reminiscing and learning,” she says.
Its sequel, Rhode Side, is already selling like hotcakes.
EXETER – On Aug. 9, Exeter resident Jesse Coker left to begin a two year volunteer mission with the Peace Corps in Uganda, Africa but, only days after beginning his two-year stint, things took a turn for the worse when Coker found himself and others in a remote location with men with machine guns and machetes.
The incident happened just a day after Coker and 45 other Peace Corps trainees were officially sworn in to become volunteers. Coker, along with four other volunteers, had to travel six hours from the capital, Kampala, to the site where he was going to be staying.
EXETER—As an incoming Town Councilman for the Town of Exeter, the last thing Dan Patterson wants to do is ruffle any feathers or stir trouble in his community … at least before he’s officially sworn in anyway.
Unfortunately, that’s no longer an option.
NORTH KINGSTOWN – In an effort to save money on printing paper, the town council unanimously approved the purchase of six Apple iPads and two spares for a cost of $8,000 to be paid for out of the Town Council Contingency Fund.
Five of the iPads will be for the five members of the council and one for the town clerk and will not be allowed for personal use. It’s expected that the iPads will save approximately $18,000 annually in printing, paper, consumables and staff costs for the thick stack of paper information packets that are sent to council members every meeting.

CHARLESTOWN – On Saturday Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. the First Baptist Church of Charlestown's choir is presenting an evening of Christmas carols and anthems to celebrate Christmas.
PEACE DALE – Seniors at the South Kingstown Senior Center learned how to save money at the grocery store while still eating healthy when SNAP nutritionist Melissa Holmes visited the center Tuesday morning.
Holmes visits 10 senior centers throughout Rhode Island each month as part of the SNAP-ED program, focusing on a different health topic. On Tuesday, Holmes discussed how to shop healthy and make a dollar go a long way. In the past, she discussed fast food restaurants and bran foods.
“Many people think when you go shopping, it’s hard to buy healthy foods,” Holmes said.

Everett W. Warfield, 88, of West Warwick, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010 at Kent Hospital in Warwick.
Gerald L. Silva, 58, of Grove Avenue, was a beloved father, papa, brother, uncle, and friend who passed away Sunday, Nov. 14th, 2010 at home.
A Memorial Service will be held at Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown on Nov. 27th from 12 to 2 p.m.
The family will be having a “Celebration of Life” for Gerald Silva on Saturday, Nov. 27th, 2010 at the Exeter Fire Station # 1 on Ten Rod Road in Exeter at 3 p.m.
