Valedictorian, Salutatorian will miss tight-knit EWG community

EXETER—Graduating from high school often leaves students awash in a flood of emotions, from excitement and anticipation to nervousness and even fear. It is a new world beyond high school, but for Exeter-West Greenwich Valedictorian Nathan Stromberg and Salutatorian Ashley Peltier, their memories with teachers and classmates will always remain.

EWG Senior High School Class of 2013 taking future in stride

KINGSTON—As family members filed into the Ryan Center at the University of Rhode Island this past Saturday, imminent graduates mulled about in the structure’s underbelly, giving high fives and relating stories about all the times they spent together in and outside of the classroom. The Exeter-West Greenwich Senior High School Class of 2013 was ready to move on.

‘Mini-tsunami’ strikes Wickford Harbor

NORTH KINGSTOWN—When one hears the word ‘tsunami,’ dramatic images of devastated coastlines and rushing surges of sea water come to mind. Although less damaging than the tsunamis that struck Indonesia in 2004 or Japan in 2011, Wickford Harbor was struck by a so-called ‘mini tsunami’ earlier this month, and local scientists have been trying to figure out the cause.

Chuck Ebersole, a member of the Wickford Yachting Club, witnessed the mini-tsunami first hand on June 13 when the tide began to sweep out of Wickford Harbor.

NK School Committee debates technology costs

NORTH KINGSTOWN—School committee members engaged in a lengthy debate regarding technology costs at North Kingstown schools on Tuesday evening, scrutinizing the purchase of $172,000 worth in laptops and equipment. The school department has deemed the purchase necessary in order to comply with the upcoming PARCC assessments, which are scheduled to replace the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) testing in 2014.

NK Council debates future economic development

NORTH KINGSTOWN—On Monday evening, the town council met with the Planning Commission and members of the Economic Development Advisory Board (EDAB) in order to discuss key issues facing the town’s economic future. All parties engaged in a serious debate about the viability of areas such as Post Road, as well as the town’s vision for future development.

Town Council approves non-police employee contract

June 29, 2013

EAST GREENWICH — Members of the East Greenwich Town Council formally approved the new agreement that covers non-police employees between the Town and the International Brotherhood of Police Officers Local 472 Tuesday evening in a brief session at Town Hall.
