MCCB, IHL agreement expands degree attainment options for MSU students

MSU News - Tue, 10/13/2015 - 11:41

Contact: Sasha Steinberg

STARKVILLE, Miss.— Students who transfer from a Mississippi community or junior college now have the opportunity to complete their associate’s degree while enrolled at Mississippi State University, thanks to an agreement between the state’s Community College Board and Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning.

The Reverse Transfer Credit Agreement allows students to transfer credits earned at MSU or another institution of higher learning to their two-year college to complete requirements for an associate’s degree without interrupting matriculation toward a baccalaureate degree.

After admission to an IHL university, transfer students earning at least 16 college credit hours from a single MCCB community or junior college will be notified after completing 64 hours that they may be eligible for the associate’s degree.

University Registrar John R. Dickerson said eligible students will be required to log in to their myState account, click the “Banner” tab, select “Community College Reverse Transfer” under the “Academic Records” tab, and follow on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Once the student’s request has been received, the MSU Registrar’s Office will send the student’s transcript to the two-year college registrar’s office. That college will then perform the degree audit and determine whether requirements for the associate’s degree have been satisfied.

For more information about the reverse transfer program, contact the MSU Registrar’s Office at 662-325-2022.
